Ethiopia Dukamo Rumudamo

Ethiopia Dukamo Rumudamo

We're back again with our monthly mystery coffee! This month we're receiving an awesome coffee from Ethiopia. This Heriloom Variety from the Dukamo Rumudamo Region won the Cup of Excellence in 2020 and is rated a 93.5!!

Cupping Notes and Experience:

It's one of those wet process Ethiopia's, that in terms of flavor, confirms Gesha's connection to Ethiopia. It's no surprise this coffee has earned top placement at Ethiopia Cup of Excellence competitions, including #1 in 2020. The fragrance of the ground coffee had such a clean sweetness, like semi-refined demerara, and sucanat sugars. It also had very nice floral character, that really blossomed after adding hot water.

The aroma smelled incredible, super floral and sweet, with some sugar-browning sweetness, and notes of pink bubble gum with some milder fruit accents. The sweetness comes off syrupy in the cup, which also informed the mouthfeel. So often these delicate washed Ethiopian coffees are light on the palate, but that isn't the case with Rumudamo.

It helps set the stage for some of the juicy fruit flavors that followed, like white grape, and pear juice. There was also a sweet citrus note like lemon-lime drink. Florals are a big part of the cup aroma, with notes of white jasmine and stargazer lily.

Farm Notes:

Rumudamo is a privately owned farm and processing site near Bensa, part of the Sidama Zone of Ethiopia's southern regions. "Rumudamo" is both the name of the wet mill, as well as the small village, or "Woreda", where it is located. The site boasts altitude above 2000 meters, and many of the farms in the area are above 2200 meters above sea level. High altitude does not guarantee high quality, but this is a case where the two are both very true!

Rumudamo's cups are floral and bright, with the kind of complex, delicate aroma that puts it in a class of its own. It's really no surprise this site took 1st place at Ethiopia's "Cup of Excellence" competition in 2020!

The latter, along with this lot, are their premium quality, which, if you've tasted the others, says a lot! It's worth noting that the screen size is on the small side too. The majority of the coffee is 15+, but we are spotting quite a few 14 screen beans in there too. The biggest concern here is that these smaller, lower density beans will roast faster than the largest coffee.
